The tech landscape is saturated with talk of “agentic workflows.” Yet, beyond the hype, lies a fundamental shift in how we build and operate digital systems. Drawing on our broad experience with intelligent agents across multiple industries, Wizeline is strategically concentrating on agentic workflows in revenue operations, a critical area where our solutions actively recover lost revenue, delivering measurable impact rather than theoretical gains.
For years, API-first architectures have been the bedrock of scalable digital services. They’ve enabled modularity, headless deployments, and global reach. But as services continue to evolve, it’s apparent that we’re moving beyond systems designed solely for human interaction to a new era where intelligent agents, consuming and orchestrating APIs, drive autonomous actions based on context and desired outcomes.
This isn’t about replacing APIs; it’s about their intelligent evolution.
Why Now? Agents Are Learning When and How To Act.
Gartner projects that by 2028, 33% of enterprise software will feature built-in agentic AI capabilities, a stark increase from today’s landscape. Moveworks anticipates over half of AI-adopting enterprises will pilot agentic workflows in revenue operations by 2027. The reason is clear: systems are no longer just for developers to build upon; they are now directly leveraged by intelligent agents to both execute tasks and achieve business goals. These agents don’t just access functionality; they intelligently decide when and how to invoke it.
We chose billing because it’s the worst of both worlds: high stakes and low adaptability. It touches every customer, every month and fails silently. It’s where pricing strategies, customer relationships, and operational complexities converge. Consider the data: ProfitWell reports that failed payments can account for up to 50% of churn in subscription businesses. In Spain alone, billions are transacted annually, with a fraction recovered manually when payments fail. Moreover, Forrester indicates that 80% of customers now expect proactive, automated communication when issues arise.
Complexity That Leads To Opportunity
The complexity of modern billing – encompassing usage-based models, dynamic subscriptions, hybrid pricing, and diverse regional regulations – further exacerbates these challenges. Legacy systems, designed for a different era, struggle to keep pace with the agility demanded by today’s market. This is precisely where the opportunity for agentic execution emerges, offering a pragmatic solution to tangible business pain.
Introducing: Intelligent Revenue Recovery Agent
This isn’t just a concept; it’s a reality Wizeline has built and deployed. In collaboration with Stripe, we’ve developed an intelligent revenue recovery agent. This agent autonomously detects failed payments in real-time, initiates an automated voice call to the user, offers options to update their payment information, and retries the payment – all without human intervention. This working system demonstrates significant improvements in recovery rates compared to traditional manual follow-up.
Stripe has been a critical enabler in this endeavor. Their platform provides more than just payment processing infrastructure. Their clean, well-documented APIs, webhook-driven eventing for real-time triggers, and powerful features like Smart Retries, Connect, and robust billing logic provided the foundational layer we needed. Stripe allowed us to focus on building the intelligent agent and its “brain” , rather than grappling with the underlying plumbing. Stripe is much more than a payment gateway; they are composable financial infrastructure for agentic systems.
An Agentic Roadmap for Revenue Recovery
This initial deployment is the foundation, specifically designed to enable more complex workflows. Our roadmap includes multi-channel recovery (SMS, email, in-app), personalized retry strategies informed by customer behavior, intelligent escalation paths based on customer value, and event-based workflows that seamlessly integrate billing, CRM, and other support systems. As we expand, agentic workflows in revenue operations will continue to evolve and improve.
Looking further ahead, our vision extends to full quote-to-cash integration, where intelligent agents autonomously manage the financial flow and critical touchpoints throughout the customer lifecycle, ensuring seamless interactions from initial engagement and quoting through payment processing and ongoing customer management.
This logical evolution of API-first systems, now empowered by intelligent agents driving tangible outcomes, is not a hypothetical future – it’s a reality we’re actively building, one intelligent agent at a time.
Agentic systems aren’t a moonshot. They’re the new execution layer and we’re already seeing the returns in revenue operations.
